NEAR SANDERSVILLE (WDAM)- A Jasper County man escaped his burning car after crashing into another car on Tuesday.
The Jones County Fire Council said the crash happened Tuesday night on Claiborne Road.
Authorities say the unidentified 44-year-old man was driving a Toyota Camry. Authorities say the car ran off the road and plowed into a parked 2000 Mercedes. The Camry then burst into flames – and the fire immediately spread into the Mercedes – destroying both cars.
The driver was able to escape from the passenger's side of his Camry. He later told authorities he fell asleep when he ran off the road.
The motorist is hospitalized at South Central Regional Medical Center with injuries that are reportedly minor and not life-threatening.
