Stringer High School wins 1st Bobcat Math League Championship | News

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM)- Students from Stringer High School have won the first-ever Bobcat Math League Championship.

By a score of 48-43, they defeated a team from Presbyterian Christian School in the final round, or Super Bowl, of the competition Thursday afternoon at Jones County Junior College.

The winners won trophies, cash prizes and scholarships.   

20 area schools took part in the league over a six-week season.

"It's just a blessing is all I can say," said Ben Jenkins, a Stringer High team member. "All our hard work has finally paid off and it's worth it," he said. 

"Our school is really coming up," said Austin Phillips, another member of the Stringer High team. "This past year, band won state championship, football is well on its way, math team is doing good, I've got a lot of pride in my school," Phillips said.

"I think that today was just the icing on the cake," said Jessica Bunch, league commissioner and math instructor at Jones County Junior College. "I think it turned out very well, from a coordinating standpoint, as well as a participant's standpoint," she said. 

The last few years, the college had hosted a one-day event known as the JCJC Math Bowl.
