Voters meet Jasper Sheriff candidates at forum
News
Jasper County residents listen to statements from candidates running for sheriff during a forum at Bay Springs City Hall Thursday night.

BAY SPRINGS, MS (WDAM)- Jasper County voters met face to face Thursday night with most of the candidates who want to be the next sheriff of that county. Four men running for the county's top law enforcement officer appeared at Bay Springs City Hall for a question and answer forum.

Prentiss Henley, Jimmy Herrington, Doug Hill and James Stone made brief statements and then answered questions from a panel.

A fifth candidate, Chris Sargent, did not attend.

The event was hosted by the Young Professionals of Jasper County.

"A lot of time, you rely on the opinions of others when you make a voting decision and I think it's very important to see that the best person for the job may not be your best friend or the person you grew up with," said Kellum Kim, social chairperson of the Young Professionals of Jasper County. "There may be someone more qualified or it may be that best friend. But, you need to get out there and make that decision for yourself," she said.
